The Northern Neck Master Gardeners (NNMG) visited Northumberland Elementary on April 11 and Lancaster Primary School on April 13 to teach third grade students about plants, wildlife, and the environment. During the Shoreline Ecology Program, excited students visited three interactive learning stations designed to focus on the natural world of the Northern Neck.
Susan Kosinski, NNMG Children’s Education Coordinator, said that the program was created to reinforce important science vocabulary for youngsters. She added, “using posters, diagrams, hands-on activities, and demonstrations, the third grade students learned how plants and animals interact with each other, how animals adapt to survive, and how people affect the environment. A special EnviroScape model allows children to observe the effects of pollution on a watershed community.”
