To no one’s surprise the Lancaster Red Devils’ wresting team swept to the Northern Neck District Wrestling Tournament championship. With wrestlers in twelve of the fourteen weight classes, three of which were uncontested, Lancaster scored 293.5 team points to far out-distance the remainder of the teams present.
Northumberland took second with 140 points, just squeezing by W&L with 139 and Essex coming in with 28 team points. With the exception of Essex, all the schools had at least one individual champion. The meet also featured the introduction of the Northumberland seniors plus the Battle for The Buoy between Northumberland and W&L, rescheduled from an early weather cancellation. The Indians won three head to head matches to reclaim the Buoy.
Also to no one’s surprise in, individual completion, the Indians senior Caleb Davis, at 170 pounds, took both his matches by relatively easy pins. However, in a mild upset, the Indians’s Bowe Rogers got a first period pin and won the 160 pound weight class individual championship.
