Northumberland made it’s opening game of the District 15 playoffs a good one with a 15-7 win over Middlesex. The game featured some aggressive base running on the part of some local lads.
Northumberland stole bases with reckless abandon including home on several occasions. In fact, they stole home so many times that local fans were looking over their shoulders for the police in case of arrest for grand theft home plate.
As the home team, Northumberland spotted the visiting Middlesex a lone run in the top of the first inning but came back to score five of their own in the bottom of the inning. The big blast was a double by Kenyon Ball. Northumberland scored three more in bottom of the second. The two teams traded runs in the next two innings.
In the top of the fifth (when Middlesex had come from behind against Essex) they scored three big runs but Northumberland exploded in the home half of the fifth with six big runs to ice the game. Taylor Reaves added a double.
