After a strong opening game win Saturday, June 22, over Spotsylvania, the Major Boys (those 10-12 years old) from Northumberland lost their next two games and were eliminated from further play.
On Monday, June 24, in the bottom of the sixth Essex scored the winning run for a 7-6 win. That dropped the Northumberland team to the loser’s bracket and on Tuesday, June 25, they lost to the Caroline All Star team, 18-1. Manager Steve Minor stated, “They were pretty good but we ran out of pitchers.” Little League rules are very strict on how many pitches a player can make over a set period of time.
The 2019 All Star team from Northumberland had the following players: Kenyon Ball, Turner Bates, Tre Booth, Willie Bowles, Camden Brann, Marcus Crawley, Chase Hymes, Bryant Lane, Cameron Minor, Taylor Reaves, Leo Stallings, Lyndon Williams, and J.P. Withers.
The team’s manager was Steve Minor with Michael Withers and Bootnanie Reaves as the coaches.
Minor, also President of the Northumberland Little League, had this to say about the 2019 season, “We had a good year in Little League with close to 120 kids.” Of the Major Boys, he added, “They were fairly young, mostly ten to eleven year olds, a fair amount of kids coming back. They had a lot heart and gave a good effort.”
The players of the Northumberland little League smile proudly as their season comes to an end.
