The Northumberland wrestling team traveled to Mathews to take part in an individual meet along with 12 other schools. The team finished ninth, but Caleb Davis took the 170-pound title with a perfect 3-0 record; C.J. Timberlake was fourth in the 113 weight division.
Davis’ three victories came on two first period pins and a 20-10 decision in the finals. Timberlake finished with a 2-2 mark.
Other Northumberland wrestlers competing could not find a victory, largely, according to them, lack of practice and team conditioning during the holiday break of three weeks. Tiffany Taylor 105, Aden Swisher 126, Kevin O’Malley 132 and 138, Bowe Rogers 160, Dawson Carlson 170, Autumn Taylor 182, and Dylan Davis 182, all went 0-2 in their matches.
J.R. Tucker took the team trophy followed by Lafayette, Warwick, Mathews, Caroline, Northampton, Franklin, Lancaster, Northumberland, W&L, Broadwater Academy, and Essex.
The wrestling team will be back in action for a quad meet at Middlesex on January 9; a trip to Franklin on January 12, at Mathews on January 16; and home Saturday, January 19, to host the Northumberland Invitational. The Indians will also host the Northern Neck District Tournament.
