The 5th Annual Pack the Bus Drive was held August 4 at the Dollar General Store in Callao. Volunteers asked for donations or purchases of school supplies from customers.
Northumberland Elementary School Vice Principal Lance Reynolds was on hand to assist with the event.
“We’re packing the bus, getting supplies, donated supplies, from people in the community. We have a list here that the customer can take in the store to purchase items that we need for the school kids,” Reynolds said.
“We have a back to school rally on the twenty-fifth of August and we’re going to be distributing supplies to all the schools,” Reynolds added.
The purpose of the Pack the Bus Rally is to help families for the cost of school supplies with otherwise could not afford them.
“SONA Bank, Callao is here sponsoring the event. They’re here to help us out,” Reynolds said.
Catonya Veney from SONA Bank said the bank has been sponsoring the event every year.
“It’s going really good,” Veney said. “It’s good for the kids.”
Kim Reid is a school bus driver for Northumberland County Schools and has been involved in the event for the last five years. “It’s a great benefit,” Reid said. “A lot of people are very generous.”
