Callao is once again given full support from the Northumberland County Board of Supervisors to move forward in their extensive process to submit an application for the statewide, competitive Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). During the Board’s regular monthly meeting on Feb. 9, a public hearing was held on the matter and the board unanimously voted to approve the resolution and allow Callao to submit their application at the end of March.
“We think Callao deserves some attention,” said Betty Cralle during the hearing, who has been active in the Callao Revitalization group, “It’s like having a big, hot air balloon, a beautiful balloon and no air in it. We need somebody to blow the air in this thing and get us off the ground.”
The resolution included two main activities for the Callao Revitalization project. The first being the revitalization of Callao’s Business District which features façade improvements, signage, landscaping, and a marketing plan with an exclusive website.
