Northumberland County’s Republicans did some political business at their meetings Wednesday evening at the Womens Club in Lottsburg, but the more important business was their presentations of scholarship checks for college-bound Northumberland high school students.
The party gave two $1000 checks to Rappahannock Community College’s Sarah Pope. The checks will provide four $500 scholarships to students going to the college. One check was from the local party itself and the other was from the Northumberland Republican Scholarship Fund LLC. The party established the fund to keep its money separate from regular party funds.
Pim Montgomery gave Pope the check from the Committee and Committee Chairman John Huber gave her the fund’s check.
The Committee will be presenting three additional scholarship checks of $1000 each at the high school’s pre-graduation awards ceremony the evening of June 1.
