In the past two weeks, Gov. Ralph Northam has announced grants to schools across the state. Not all the systems received grants but Northumberland got its share.
Northumberland will receive $64,147 in grants to replace outdated cameras at all three of the schools. The cameras and video feeds, which will also be upgraded, are key to the schools’ security systems.
Cris Kallenberger, the head of maintenance for the schools applied for the School Security Equipment Grant from the program operated by the State School Board and the Department of Criminal Justice Services. Kallenberger had asked for $124, 896.
A second grant will allow the system to place a resource officer at the county’s middle school. Three already are resource officers at the elementary and high schools.
