For many years the local residents of Haynesville had their own supermarket. It was a locally owned business that served the community and was a real down-home family owned market. At the time there were only three main supermarkets in the area. One in Callao, one in Warsaw and of course Browns Market in Haynesville. Pete Brown, who owned and operated the store for 20 years built the store in 1980. He retired in 2000 and sold the building in 2004.
For 17 years the building remained standing as it always did, even though it was often empty. Through the years several new proprietors would come in and open up a new store offering fresh meats or just lunches and all the other good stuff like soda, candy and drinks and maybe a hot breakfast sandwich for workers starting their day. However they all eventually closed.
Two years ago Jay and Di Patel decided to open the old Browns Market.
They named it Speed Mart and came in with a full service lunch menu that includes fried chicken, pizza and many other hot items and sandwiches.
