Split results for Northumberland Indians varsity softball team

Winning Tuesday at Senior night at home, 7-2 over Lancaster and then losing Friday at Rappahannock, 5-0 left the Lady Indians in third place heading into this week’s Conference #43 tournament.

Seniors honored Tuesday were scorekeeper Paige Augst, Katie Crowther, Connor Haislip, Sarah Haynie, Kaci Payne and Lauren Self. the Lady Red Devils were all set to run the senior night festivities, taking a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning. Macey Augst doubled, moved to third place on a sacrifice, Sarah Haynie singled to score Augst. She then scored on a Lauren Self single.

In the home half of the sixth inning, three more runs were scored on a Mary Kathryn Hall single that stretched into a triple on an error. Two walks and a hit batter had loaded the bases for Hall.

Friday, after the rains caused yet another delay, Rappahannock’s Hallie Berger shut down the powerful Indians’ bats. Berger was backed up by a fielding effort by the first-place Raiders.
