Finishing as Region 1A East runners-up sent three Indian teams to the Virginia State Championship Quarterfinals for the first time in school history. The only problem, as runners-up, they had to travel to the Region B champions in the western part of the state.
The softball team went to Riverheads High in Staunton and lost 4-0. Both the girls and guys soccer team went to Stonewall Jackson in Quicksburg where the guys pulled out a 1-0 win but the girls lost 4-1.
Coach Mike Baker of the Lady Indians softball team said of their opponent, “They were extremely well prepared, for that moment and that game.” Riverheads scored two runs in the second and two more in the fifth. The Indians had runners in scoring position in the first but could not bring them in. They threatened in both the second and fourth but the Riverheads pitching kept them off stride. Zoie Sadler and Hannah Hayes had the Indian’s only two hits.
