Northumberland County’s supervisors met in a work session with school officials Wednesday afternoon to peruse the school board’s proposed budget for the coming fiscal year. After having almost 16 million dollars for the year that is ending, the schools are asking for $17 million dollars for 2014-2015. The actual money that will be needed is impossible to pin down in the absence of a state budget, Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Rebecca Gates, said during the meeting. She noted that the school board had used Gov. Bob McDonnell’s proposed budget to draw up its budget.
