Saturday, July 8, was a day full of joy and excitement for the town of Kilmarnock, and any Northern Neck residents who were present for the grand opening of the new Town Centre Park. Mayor Mae Umphlett led the ribbon cutting ceremony, and welcomed in the large crowd of anxious spectators ready to enjoy the festivities.
The Town Centre Park features an amphitheater, playground, picnic areas, and even a splash pad fountain for the kids (and kids-at-heart). The children knew exactly how to beat the heat, following Mayor Umphlett to the splash pad, and frolicking to their heart’s content to the continuous music provided by 101.7 BAY FM. Kids activities included story time, face painting, and balloon animals. Fun and uplifting live performances were presented throughout the day by the Children’s Theater and Etudes Ballet Studio. Later, a free concert by Soul Expressions rounded out the evening’s celebration on the Half Shell Stage.
