The third time wasn’t the charm for the Callao Ruritan’s antique and open tractor pull. Having been rescheduled twice already, it was canceled again as rain pressed into the area Sunday morning.
“It didn’t work this time, either,” Ruth Turner of the Ruritans said Sunday evening.
Turner said she and other organizers decided to postpone the pull at 6:30 Sunday morning. The decision had to be made early since some of the tractors come from considerable distances for the contests. The Ruritans hope to reschedule in late October, Turner said.
The postponed pull would have involved tractors weighing from 2001 pounds to 12,000 pounds.
A pull involving lighter lawn and garden tractors did go off as scheduled Saturday. Even so, the event was rushed to have it over before rain hit Turner said.
Despite threatened rain, the Saturday pull “had a fair crowd,” Turner observed, but once the contests were over at about 1 p.m. People wanted to leave before the rains’ arrival so a major auction that was to be part of the event Saturday was postponed.
