The Northumberland County School Board met on Tuesday, November 12, at 6 p.m. in Northumberland High School & Northumberland Middle School auditorium. This meeting date was rescheduled from Monday, November 11, due to the Veterans Day Holiday.
The school board approved the following personnel appointments, pending background check and fingerprinting as applicable, for the 2019-2020 year: Substitute Teacher: Darlene Cox; Part-Time School Nutrition Worker: Cathy Betancourt-Ramos; Supplemental Contracts: NMS Boys’ Basketball Coach: Alexis Wormley; Indoor Track Coach: Trinity Bea; Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Sponsor: Tracey Keeve; Extra Class: Sterling Harris; NCPS Curriculum Development Writing Team: Pauline Brann, Arlene Bourne, Michele Jennings, Anne Gardiner, Sherri Kent, April Walker, Stacey Lee, Michelle Roberti and Molly Frazier.
In other news, the school division will celebrate the Virginia School Board Association’s (VSBA) “Take Your Legislator to School” month. The NES principal invited legislators to the upcoming Thanksgiving feast on November 19, and the NMS principal invited legislators to a Family Engagement Activity on November 14 .
The NMS & NHS World Language teachers Jennifer Thomas and Juliana Soto provided a course offering overview to the board. They also presented an International Trip Proposal in which students will travel to Italy, France, and Spain during the spring of 2021.
The NHS principal presented information on the Senior Class of 2020 trip to the Outer Banks which will take place later this spring. The principal will mail information to all Class of 2020 parents to make sure parents are informed of upcoming fundraising and deposit information. The mailing also will include important Senior dates.
The Director of Instruction shared 2020-21 Calendar updates and survey results. Calendar options include start dates of August 11, August 17, August 24, and September 8. The Division Superintendent shared the following upcoming events:

-November 14: NHS, NMS, & NES Parent – Teacher Conferences; NMS Family
Engagement Night with dinner & PRIDE Bingo ;

-November 19: NES Thanksgiving Dinner ;
-November 22: NMS Glo-vember Social & Dance sponsored by NMS SCA with giant yard games, prizes, dancing, DJ, and FUN.
