Since the popular NBC show the Voice began its 12th season in late February, Northumberland viewers and others from across the Northern Neck have been glued to their television sets every Monday night. It has been a special time for our county as fans have rallied to support 29 year old Burgess native Terry “T-Soul” Pinkard on his journey to become one of America’s next great singers. Sadly this journey came to an end for the young artist on May 15 ,when his rendition of Aretha Franklin’s Ain’t No Way failed to garner him enough votes to reach the next round of the competition.
Each contestant worked hands on with a star coach. TSoul was a member of country artist Blake Shelton’s team. Of his relationship with his coach, he said, “It was perfect. It was more than I could have envisioned. I knew he had a good idea of soul music and I was interested to see what he would suggest for me. He picked songs for me that I wouldn’t have necessarily chosen for myself but they were perfect. It was just the perspective that I needed. He always let me be 100% myself, not only in front of him but in front of the world.”
