Northumberland County’s Republican Committee met Wednesday, September 11, and concerned itself primarily with getting ready for its annual oyster roast October 5, and the elections coming up in November.
Three Republican candidates for office, Joe Self, Junior Fisher, who are running for Supervisor in Districts 1 and 4, and Del. Margaret Ransone, were at the meeting. All said their campaigns were going well but asked for any additional support the committee could give. The committee voted to give Ransone $200 to help meet some expenses she expected to have before the end of the week.
Ransone wasn’t the only one the committee voted to provide with financial support. It also endorsed Independent Ronnie Jett for re-election to the Board of Supervisors from District 5 and voted to give him $1200 for his campaign.
Jim Michel, who is in charge of the oyster roast, reported that it will be the same as past years except he isn’t buying forks and knives this year. Spoons are entirely adequate for clam chowder. He also said he has a full crew of volunteers to help set up the roast at Cowart Seafood and clean up when it is over. The only thing he needed help with was the wine booth which was short handed.
